A PERSONAL PROGRAMME

Indian architect Anupama Kundoo has this Saturday organised a personal programme with film screenings and talks, which introduce the audience to the cultural heritage that characterizes her practice.
Kundoo has created a number of projects in India, including her own house in Auroville, Wall House, and has worked, researched and taught all over the world at institutions such as The Technische Universität in Berlin, Parsons The New School of Design in New York and Universidad Camilo José Cela in Madrid.
PROGRAMME
From 11.30 to 13.45
Anupama Kundoo in conversation with curator of the exhibition Taking Time, Kjeld Kjeldsen. Subsequently Kundoo will introduce the film ‘Nostalgia for the Future’ – a film about Indian modernity that describes how 20th century ideals of equality and independence were reflected in many of the buildings that shot up all over India – from the Le Corbusier-designed private residence Villa Shodhan in Ahmedabad to public housing in Delhi that was to house refugees from Pakistan. (“Nostalgia for the Future” duration: 54 min)
Kundoo also introduces the film ‘Vistara – The Architecture of India’, which documents the iconic travelling exhibition on Indian architecture curated by the Indian architect Charles Correa in 1986. (“Vistara – The Architecture of India” duration: 15 min)
From 14.45 to 17.30
Kundoo introduces the film ‘Ghare Baire’ by Satyajit Ray, which through a fictional woman’s narrative provides insight into India’s history and its political struggles. About the British conflict, the division of the country in 1947, the struggle between Hindus and Muslims, rich and poor – and about how it affected the country’s citizens. (‘Ghare Baire’ duration: 140 min).
