A musical journey through jazz interpretations of repertoire and genres not previously translated through the lens of jazz. With Billy Cobham and members of the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective. Billy Cobham to replace Terri Lyne Carrington.
Due to the corona pandemic and medical recommendations, Terri Lyne Carrington is unable to travel at this time. As a result, the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective will work closely with her on a new program and rescheduled appearance for 2021. Further details to be announced.
To replace Carrington, one of the greatest masters and innovators of jazz/fusion history, drummer Billy Cobham, has generously accepted our invitation to headline the December 4th Jazz/Takes project alongside pianist Niels Lan Doky, Swedish bassist Lars Danielson and harmonica player Mathias Heise, in a performance of jazz interpretations of 1990s Seattle Grunge and songs by Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam and Temple Of The Dog.
Tickets already purchased for the original Terri Lyne Carrington iteration of the concert remain fully valid for Billy Cobham with no additional action needed. For ticket buyers who bought prior to October 21st and who would like a refund instead please write to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Panamanian-American jazz drummer, Billy Cobham – who was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Classic Drummer Hall of Fame in 2013 – came to prominence in the late 1960s and early 1970s with trumpeter Miles Davis and then with the Mahavishnu Orchestra before becoming an accomplished bandleader in his own right. Generally acclaimed as one of the greatest drummers of all time, his explosive technique powered some of the jazz fusion genre’s most important early recordings.
The Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective is an association of prolific musicians from Europe, North America, and South America, devoted to presenting unique and exclusive jazz performances of which cannot be heard anywhere else. The collective is led by pianist Niels Lan Doky, whom the international press has hailed as “the best pianist of his generation” and “one of the most important pianists that European jazz has given us in the last 45 years”.
The concert is supported by Augustinus Fonden, William Demant Fonden & Gangsted Fonden.
