Please note, the concert ticket includes entrance to the museum.

The concert is presented in collaboration with Jazzhus Montmartre.

Kenny Barron plays with breathtaking virtuosity, earning him no fewer than 14 Grammy nominations over the years. He is regarded as one of the last remaining masters of jazz’s pioneering golden age.

He is particularly renowned for his harmonic depth and rhythmic vitality. His place in jazz history is secured in no small part by the extraordinarily beautiful live album People Time, recorded at Jazzhus Montmartre in March 1991. Here, he performed as a duo with Stan Getz, shortly before Getz’s death.

At tonight’s concert, Barron presents a hand-picked selection of songs under the title Songbook. He revisits and revitalises 13 of his own original compositions, now enriched with lyrical dimensions through evocative lyrics written by songwriter Janice Jarrett.

The repertoire ranges widely from captivating bossa nova, energetic samba and Afro-Cuban influences to jazz ballads and swinging blues.

Joining Kenny Barron on stage:

Ekep Nkwelle (vocals): A Cameroonian-American singer, she features on Barron’s Songbook album, where her luminous voice and distinctive interpretations particularly bring the two contemplative pieces Illusion and Sonia Braga to life.

Russell Hall (bass): A prominent figure on the American jazz scene, he has collaborated with heavyweights including Wynton Marsalis, Wayne Shorter and Jon Batiste. He brings a deep rhythmic authority to the quartet.

Jonathan Barber (drums): Barber moves effortlessly between straight-ahead jazz and more contemporary rhythmic approaches. He has toured and recorded with leading figures in jazz, including Pat Metheny and Christian McBride.

Please note, that tickets will only be refunded if the event is cancelled.
